Homewood and Tahoma
Driving down the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, it feels like you are stepping back in time. With original lodges, and “old-Tahoe” cabins from the 1930’s, Homewood and Tahoma is a wonderful juxtaposition of new and old. Amongst the old cabins is an inventory of stunning properties, and with the fabulous boating that the west shore offers, the west shore is often referred to as the “best shore.”
The topography of the west shore is as such that the depth of the water dips down quickly from the shoreline, offering boaters supreme waters to explore the shoreline. There are numerous restaurants on Lake Tahoe with their own piers, and hopping from spot to spot is a popular summertime activity. Chamber’s Landing has a small little shack out on a pier, where boaters can tie up, get out, grab a Chamber’s Punch, and head back out onto the Lake! (Please drive responsibly).
Homewood Ski Resort is located in Homewood, with a small array of restaurants, Homewood High and Dry Marina, and Obexer’s Marina. Secret tidbit of information: The market in Obexer’s general store has the best selection of cheese in Lake Tahoe!
There is phenomenal hiking on the west shore, including a great short hike up Eagle Rock for spectacular views. Park just before Blackwood Creek and the bridge that runs over it, and take the path up. It’s short, and steep, but does have a few technical areas.
