With Plumpjack’s proposed re-development moving along nicely, I thought I’d go over the ins and outs of the Proposal and details of the new site we will all get to enjoy, hopefully as soon as possible! Approximate time frame is 12-18 months…Squaw Valley Lodge has raised an objection, most likely due to the change in their view corridor, facing north, but as you’ll read a little further in my article, I think Plumpjack’s has done a great job of keeping them in mind!
In a place of many vocal neighbors and community members, Plumpjack’s has always been a haven and an abode well-loved by the community. With quality meals coming out of their restaurant, a casual city-vibe in the mix, one of the only dog-friendly hotels around, and the go-to venue for weddings and special events, Plumpjack’s draws a familiar crowd in, and back again time and time again. Generations come to celebrate skiing, family, and fun there.
First and foremost let’s go over room counts. They’ve proposed 60 hotel rooms, 48 standard rooms, 6 Family Suites, 5 Poulsen Sites, and One Penthouse Suite. As well, they have proposed including 34 private condo units, with bedrooms ranging from 2-5 bedrooms. There will be a total of 100 bedrooms for the condos. Alongside the living spaces, Plumpjack’s will have a bar that seats 48 and a restaurant that seats 64. That’s just about double what they have right now. They will offer an outside patio and lawn space, as well as an exercise room, ski rental shop, and of course their conference room. The current conference room proffers a great deal of business to Plumpjack’s, and they will continue to cater their wonderful events throughout the year.
As seen in the image below, there will be three main buildings. The main building will contain all 60 hotel rooms as well as the restaurant, bar and conference center, at 5 stories for one section, and 2 stories for the other section. The two additional buildings heading west on the property on Squaw Peak Road, will contain the condos, 3 stories and 4 stories. I believe the way in which the stories are configured allows Squaw Valley Inn the best views possible from their property, across the street.
All parking will be underground! This will be wonderful for guests and condo homeowners alike. Underground parking in a snowy destination such as Squaw Valley is key! This will also maximize their outdoor space. Currently a great deal of the Plumpjack property is covered in concrete for their parking, and it’s abhorrent. What a waste of beautiful land, right alongside Squaw Creek!
Besides the fact that we get a beautiful new space to wine and dine in, Plumpjack’s has done a great job of keeping the environment in mind. With underground cisterns to collect run-off from the roofs, to repurpose that gray-water in their irrigation, and asserting their dedication to have the property LEED certified, Plumpjack’s Squaw Valley will be a wonderful beacon of modern living, in our quaint little destination. It’s time we had some new development outside of Truckee. The Lake Tahoe Basin and Squaw are poorly outdated, and the economy shows it. Goodbye old decrepit buildings from 1960, and hello 2017! This is an exciting time to be investing in this gorgeous community.
