With over 50 feet of snow this winter so far, and currently another storm heading this way, our waterways are thankfully full and flowing! There are 6 gates of the dam open at Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City, and the River is rushing! A great deal of the River looks white it’s flowing so quickly over the rocks.
In Reno, downtown at the River Walk, the River is just about 2 feet from overflowing again. While I’m not sure the ratio of water release, and concurrent snowmelt, I have to think it’s quite a fine line. The Lake level has risen to 6,227.10 feet, and it’s less than 2 feet now from 6,229 flood stage. While it would be nice to release enough water to not get to the flood stage, if they release too much water, the River and Reno will flood! It’s a fine fine balance.
Currently the Truckee River is at 9.2 feet, crest state there is 11 feet, and 5,400 cfs. Here are some shots from Reno yesterday! The sidewalk under the bridge is flooded, the stairs down to the water were underwater… it’s close!
